Two devoted Cambridge City FC supporters and long-standing club volunteers are gearing up to tackle a remarkable 30-mile triathlon – celebrating the rich history of the club, all the grounds that the club has played at and raising vital funds to support all areas of the Club.
The challenge, taking place on Sunday 3rd August, will see Neil Harvey & John Aves start at the One Leisure Pool in St Ives with a swim, they will then jump on their bikes to Cambridge via Histon Town FC and the visit all the grounds/venues that Cambridge City or previously Town used for competitive league matches and then on to the Salisbury Arms Pub off Mill Road. This is where the inaugural meeting to form the club took place in 1908. They will then don their running shoes and run from the Pub to our new stadium in Sawston.
Each leg of the triathlon symbolises a chapter in the club’s proud legacy, dating back nearly 120 years.
This unique fundraiser isn’t just about endurance – it’s a heartfelt tribute to the highs, lows, and memories that have shaped Cambridge City FC. The duo, both lifelong fans who have volunteered with the club for decades, are aiming to raise awareness and funds to support ongoing community work, youth development, and the continued growth of the club in its new stadium.
“This club is in our blood,” said John, one of the two triathletes. “We’ve seen it all – from the glory days to the challenges – and we wanted to do something meaningful to give back and with Neil's love of the Club's history we felt this was a great idea. This triathlon is our way of honouring the past while helping to build the future. Can you help us reach our goal of £1000?!”
Cambridge City FC General Manager Alice Dewey said: “We’re so proud of our supporters – especially those who give their time year after year to help the club thrive. This triathlon is an inspiring example of the passion and community spirit that define City. We’ll be cheering them on all the way.”
Donations and sponsorship opportunities are now open, with all proceeds supporting all areas of Cambridge City FC from community outreach, our youth teams, and ongoing development at the new stadium.
