Third successful year supporting the Red Hen Project

Cambridge City Football Club was introduced to The Red Hen Project back in 2023 by Mike

Mair (U15s Boys coach at the time) when Mike proposed us running football sessions in the school holidays, with players from his football team designing/organising football activities to then teach to children who would attend. The Red Hen Project is a hyper-local charity working directly with families, promoting positive, confident parenting and cooperative relationships between schools and families in the CB4 area. They are dedicated to supporting families and creating opportunities for children who might not otherwise have access to them.

Since 2023, we have partnered together and provided 5 holiday football coaching sessions, each with 30+ children. Our U15/U16s boys teams and their coaches have designed and delivered really fun and creative sessions during the Easter & Summer holidays and our Supporters Trust have provided goodie bags, food and drink for families attending.

We are proud to have this partnership in place and to be able to support the Red Hen and families involved, seeing the smiles and excitement on the children's faces each time is lovely. By partnering with this incredible charity, we aim to raise awareness of the work the Red Hen Project does in Cambridge and use the power of football to make a real difference in the lives of young people who need it most. At the same time as developing our players off the pitch through social skills and their coaching skills and experiences.

Some lovely feedback from families:-

“My children benefited immensely from this football event. It has been a fantastic experience for both of them. They've gained confidence, developed new skills, and most importantly, thoroughly enjoyed the game.

The coaching has been engaging and supportive. The coaches created a positive environment where the children felt encouraged and motivated to learn and improve. The children were awarded certificates, given cute food bags and provided a delicious lunch.

We’re very grateful for this opportunity and look forward to taking part in future events.”

“I've always been impressed with how they are every year with the kids always so kind and caring and understanding with the kids that have anxiety and it's lovely how they boost their confidence.”

We would like to thank our coaches who have shared their time over the last three years; Mike Mair, Mark Tyler, John Harvey and Shaun Harrington, along with all the players and Steve Plumb, Alice Dewey and Kate Perring from the Supporters Trust.

We would also like to thank Rachel Bennett, Maria David and their team at the Red Hen Project for organisation and the opportunity to work with them. We look forward to continuing this partnership in the future.
