Cambridge City FC was honoured to welcome South Cambridgeshire MP Pippa Heylings to the recent Cam Classico derby, where she presented the club with an Early Day Motion (EDM) raised in Parliament to mark the official opening of our new stadium in Sawston.

An Early Day Motion is a formal statement submitted by Members of Parliament to draw attention to specific events or achievements. While EDMs are rarely debated in the House of Commons, they serve as a powerful tool to raise awareness and record recognition in the public record. The motion, submitted by Pippa Heylings, pays tribute not only to the opening of the new stadium but also to the extraordinary effort that made it possible.
Pippa’s visit was part of an initiative by Pitching In, following the club’s recent successful grant application to the Pitching In Trident Community Fund. This fund, established in partnership with the Trident Leagues and supported by Entain, provides financial assistance to non-league clubs across Steps 3–6 of the football pyramid, enabling them to deliver community-based projects that have a real impact at the local level.
“This house warmly congratulates Cambridge City FC on it's return to a permanent home,” said Pippa Heylings. “It recognises the immense dedication and perseverance of everyone involved in the project and celebrates the clubs vital role in fostering community identity and opportunity across generations.”
The motion acknowledges the years of work behind the project and the significance of securing a permanent base in Sawston, a milestone moment in the club’s long and eventful history. Since opening the gates to the new ground, the community has embraced the club, with record attendances, local partnerships, and grassroots initiatives bringing new life to the stadium.
General Manager, Alice Dewey commented:
“To receive national recognition through an EDM is a proud moment for everyone connected to the club. It represents the resilience of our supporters, the dedication of our volunteers, and the belief that football can bring communities together. This is just the beginning of a bright new chapter for Cambridge City FC.”
We would like to thank Pippa Heylings MP for her continued support, and Pitching In for recognising and backing our work through the Trident Community Fund, support that is already helping us deliver real benefits to the local community, both on and off the pitch.

Lovely. Very heartwarming, and a tribute to the LOADS of people who have worked so hard to take the club forward in recent years. That's exactly what community is all about.
