The appointment brings not only experience and passion, but also a remarkable family connection to the club’s history.

A proud and personal appointment

Duncan said:

“I’m genuinely excited to become manager of Cambridge City with this new amputee team. It’s a brilliant opportunity and a real privilege to be involved from the very beginning. My expectations for the season are to build a strong, supportive squad and develop a team identity we can all be proud of. We want to be competitive, of course, but just as importantly we want to create an environment where players feel valued, backed, and able to progress and enjoy their football. It’s such an honour to be connected to Cambridge City FC. I grew up in Cambridge and my father played for the club in the late 1950s, so to be part of Cambridge City in this way feels really special. I’m looking forward to what we can achieve together.”

Duncans father, Michael Rumbelow, played for Cambridge City in 1958, joining the club after winning the Junior Cup Final on the Milton Road pitch. Following that final, he was approached by then Chairman, Harold Ridgeon and signed for the club, going on to play in the reserves in the Athenian League.

That same year, Jack White arrived from Bristol City to manage Cambridge City as the club moved towards a more professional structure. Although offered a contract, his father eventually chose a different path and later played for Cambridge United.

Now, decades later, the family connection comes full circle.

A wealth of coaching experience

Duncan brings over 15 years of coaching experience across grassroots and inclusive football.

After retiring from playing, he moved into youth coaching and has worked extensively with local clubs. Six years ago, he established his own football coaching business delivering:

  • FA Football Programmes, including Girls Wildcats and Squad sessions

  • FA Pan Disability programmes

  • SEN home-educated football groups across Norfolk

  • School-based coaching provision

His commitment to inclusive football extends internationally. He founded the “Cambodia Sports Project”, supporting schools in Kampot to train young people as football coaches and run free weekly football sessions for local children.

He has also coached in Spain with FB Denia Inclusivo, an adult disability team competing in a local league, and has been invited to coach with Vias FC, a youth academy in Ondara.

This breadth of experience, particularly within disability fo

otball, places him in a strong position to build a competitive and supportive amputee squad under the Cambridge City FC banner.

Backed by Cambridgeshire FA

Cambridgeshire FA have welcomed the appointment and the wider partnership.

A spokesperson said:

“Cambridgeshire FA is incredibly excited about the new partnership between Cambridge City FC and one of the England Amputee football teams. Cambridge City FC are a club that have shown incredible drive in providing inclusive opportunities across the board and will be a brilliant parent club for these incredible players. Having a Cambridgeshire club spotlighting the brilliance of amputee football on the national stage is a huge step forward in helping to grow inclusive football in our county. We encourage everyone to tune into the Disability FA Cup and see the team in action. We know you’ll do us proud.”

Building something special

With the team preparing for the season ahead, and with a national cup final at St George’s Park already on the horizon, this appointment represents another key milestone in Cambridge City FC’s journey.

It is a move rooted in history, driven by experience, and focused firmly on the future.

Cambridge City FC looks forward to supporting Duncan and the amputee squad as they build a team identity the club and community can be proud of.

The Cambridge City Amputee team start their league campaign this coming Saturday and we wish them all the best for their first game in our colours.
