City collapsed to a 3-1 defeat away to Brentwood Town despite leading until the 89th minute.
The home side dominated the first half but couldn’t find a way through the City defence as Tom Middlehurst produced his best performance of the season to thwart the Blues.
City could have scored from their only real shot on goal when skipper Jayden Randell struck a powerful volley goal wards, only to be denied but a superb save from Melvin Minter.
The Lilywhites came out much brighter in the second half and took the lead on 60 minutes when debutant Kieran Bishop’s cheeky back heel struck the far post and crept in.
Brentwood upped the pressure but City were defending superbly, right up until the 89th minute when Brentwood got a cross into the 6 yard box and Daniel Ogunleye was on hand to smash the ball home.
60 secs later and it was 2-1, substitute Jesse Olukolu’s curling effort from the edge of the box gave Middlehurst no chance and it was Olukolu who added the third, turning his man in the box and rifling home.
Worse news for City was Jack Thompson limping off after 77 mins with what looks like a serious Hamstring injury.
Next up we entertain Gorleston at Westwood Road on Saturday 19th October.
