Harrington's Homecoming

City Director of Youth, Neil Midgley is pleased to announce that ex-City and Cambridge United player Shaun Harrington will be joining our youth setup in a Head of Coaching capacity.

‘Harrers’ is an ex-pro who played for City in the early 90s and coached our U16 side a few years back. Shaun was also a member of that! Cambridge United squad who won the 1990/91 Div 3 championship.

We spoke with Shaun about his upcoming appointment

"I spent my schoolboy years at my hometown club Doncaster Rovers, where I signed as an apprentice, before joining Cambridge United, going on to sign as a young Pro. My connection with Cambridge City started in 1991, when I signed having left Cambridge United. Looking back, we had a fantastic group of players who were also brilliant people, many of whom I keep in close contact with to this day.

For the past 6 years or so, I have been coaching in and around Youth football at various levels (Professional and grassroots). I’ve combined gaining my coaching badges (Level 1, 2 & UEFA B Licence) with practical experience and have done a huge amount of learning.

I think it's really important as a coach that we ask our players to put themselves out of their comfort zone and see mistakes as learning opportunities. Equally important is that we, as coaches, also share that same mindset for our own growth and development.

I am very excited by the opportunity that the role of Head of Youth Coaching offers, and am passionate about helping Cambridge City develop a first-class Youth system.

Neil and I have had some really positive discussions in sharing our vision and ideas, and I look forward to working with the Youth coaches, several of whom I know, and supporting them in the best way I can.

The upcoming move into the new Stadium has brought a really positive feel to the club and I feel that this can act as a catalyst for the Youth teams to really push on and benefit from being around these brilliant facilities."

Welcome back to City Harrers!
