Haringey Borough 1 - 1 Cambridge City

Cambridge City travelled to North London to take on Haringey Borough in the latest Isthmian League outing. City were hoping to build on their win over Redbridge last weekend, while Haringey were on a run of 5 matches without a win.

The match kicked off and the early parts were played at a fair pace, Alfie Mason played on the left to cross the ball into the penalty area but failed to find a teammate. Haringey also looked good going forward but neither teams found any luck in front of goal.

Alex Teniola then sent Jahkyah Ebanks-Blake through on goal. The youngster then shot straight at goal, Ashlee Jones being the wall between the posts.

After 14 minutes, Derek Asamoah went on a wonder on the left to win his side a corner. The corner was struck towards the near post and Scott Mitchell reacted quicker than anyone else to nod into the net. The majority of the 430 in attendance cheered when Haringey took the lead.

Haringey then had the better of the play for the next few minutes. Firstly Asamoah ran down the left again, Alfred Bobson Bawling latched onto the ball, he then beat the defender and forced James Philp into the save.

Not long afterwards, another corner on the left was knocked in towards Jorge Djassi-Sambu, Borough's no.4 not getting the connection he wanted, heading the ball swiftly over the bar.

Then, after 29 minutes, City got their first real chance to find an equaliser. Ebanks-Blake took the ball on the right, he then beat William Danquah and was through on goal. Tommy Boxer had all the luck as he stuck a foot in and deflected the ball onto the post.

City were finally starting to motor, and 3 minutes later Samrai Gebrai and Jack Thompson both combined to send in Codey Cosgrave, but City's no.8 blazed over the bar in a promising position.

34 minutes in, City had a free-kick. Jack Thompson was on the ball but was unable to make any use of the situation. City then had a slick move, from left to right, and Teniola was almost sent through. Unfortunately, he was unable to get to the ball before the defenders.

There was just enough time for Djassi-Sambu to fashion an opportunity for his team, his teammate shooting wide and failing to double Haringey's lead.

The Lilywhites then had a free-kick 5 minutes after the start of the second period. Gebrai and Mason were involved. Although the free-kick lead to nothing, Mason kept the ball. He then found Teniola who volleyed wide from close quarters.

Haringey went on the counter with Bawling on the right-hand side, the counter didn't lead to much, but then, after 59 minutes, Djassi-Sambu was proving impossible to defend against. The no.4 then sent Asamoah through, with Philp keeping the score down again.

With Haringey up the other end, City then went on the counter. After winning a free-kick, Alfie Mason stepped up to take the kick, but sent it straight into the arms of Jones in the Borough goal.

After 68 minutes, City were given a corner. Gebrai took the corner, and after receiving the ball back after the corner was defended, tried his luck for a second time. The cross was once again claimed by Jones, who was having a decent afternoon between the posts.

City then had the better of the play in the last quarter of the match. Mason started things off with a nice switch from left to right, and soon afterwards, City found themselves with a throw that eventually led to a corner. Gebrai took the corner again but couldn't find a teammate.

The Lilywhites then had a free-kick after 80 minutes. The kick hit the wall, but spun away for a corner. The ball was then crossed towards the far post, with Jayden Gipson heading wide after beating his marker.

There was a little bit of controversy after 83 minutes, Gebrai was just about to latch onto a lobbed pass into the penalty area when he was adjudged to have had been leading with a high foot.

Ebanks-Blake was once again through on goal, but Jones was determined to keep his clean sheet intact, with the goalkeeper also saving from Gebrai with just 2 minutes left of the 90.

City once again left it late to secure an equaliser. As the ball was carried down the right, the ball was lobbed high towards the far post, Alfie Mason was on hand to strike the ball into the ground, it then sailed over the keeper an into the corner of the net at the far post.

With just injury time remaining, neither team were able to find a winning goal, and the match ended all square; some of the Haringey players slumped to the ground in frustration, having let the win slip in the dying embers of the game.

With the draw, City now have just 1 win in 6 games, the result also meaning that it is now not mathematically possible to reach the play-offs. City will go again next weekend, when they face newly relegated Ipswich Wanderers.
