We would like to update everyone about the current situation with the 1st team to re-assure you that we are doing everything we can to turn around the poor form that has seen us fall towards the bottom of the table.
At the start of the season we asked Robbie to put together a team that would be competitive, while retaining a realistic target of ensuring we finish the season comfortably around the mid table. This would allow us to focus on the stadium build, meaning we can remain at Step 4 and take the club forward into Sawston.
We fully appreciate that the current position is not as we would have expected at this stage of the season and as a board and a club we are all very concerned about our position as we approach the Christmas period.
At the start of the season we all witnessed a positive progression that resulted in some excellent performances against teams at our level, albeit in different leagues, we had an excellent cup run and good initial league results, However, as the season has progressed, it's clear that in recent weeks, we've experienced a number of unfortunate results, coupled with some poor performances when injuries to key players has challenged the depth of our squad.
We have had, and will continue to have, discussions with the management team with the expectation and trust in them to improve results. We have seen discontent on our social media channels of late and while we understand the frustrations and the desire for a change of management, we also have to consider the implications of making a change at this stage.
There are few people who dedicate themselves to the wellness of the club more than Robbie & Midge, the backroom staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes to improve the situation and we back them to turn the situation around.
While we find ourselves in a position that is far from ideal, we have to acknowledge that circumstances do work against us in a league that, geographically, positions us as outliers. It's difficult to recruit when we have long away journeys every other week or to attract players in our league that would have to travel for training. Players we would like to bring in, are prioritising moves to clubs within the sustainable catchment area of the league.
It is a testament to Robbie and the management team that they have pulled together a dedicated group that are prepared to put in the commitment that we ask from them. Many of our current crop of players travel long distances and believe in the cause and the manager, they are a talented bunch and give their all to the club in very difficult circumstances.
We do not hide from the fact that results on the pitch are not acceptable, and everyone is working hard behind the scenes to make sure we turn this around. We are constantly on the look out for players that can come in and improve the squad but sometimes it's financially or geographically impossible to bring them in, however that does not discourage the management team and they continue to operate with the best interest of the club at heart.
On behalf of the club, the board, the staff and the players, right now we need your support more than ever. By attending games and supporting initiatives by the Supporters Trust you are helping us to survive until we get to Sawston, We thank all of you that contribute and we will do everything we can to reward you for sticking with us.
Please trust in the process as we progress toward opening in Sawston. With our own home and the revenue opportunities that it brings we look forward to an extremely bright future for this incredible football club, that despite all the odds, has survived thanks to the support we receive from all of you, the stakeholders in the club, the staff, the players and in particular, the Satchell family for their unwavering support.
We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
THE BOARD
Best to drop down a league to hopefully get a few new fans in from sawston area whereas if still in same league and playing same shambles football they would probably soon lose interest
it would be nice if we knew when the new ground will be open for matches
Perhaps if the manager of the Under 18 / Thurlow Nunn team had had a genuine interest in developing players , rather than lying to parents and alienating players there would be more experienced 18 year olds to call on rather than a bunch of sixteen year olds who were brought forward to make up the numbers when every 18 year old left. You reap what you sow unfortunately
Totally agree with club statement . Really hope we can stay at Step 4 and that with a new ground we will be moved to a more regional league. In most games we have played some nice football and with a better rub of the green things should change on the pitch.
Thank you for being frank with us. Yes, it is a difficult period but we will try to hang in there!
