City welcome club Chaplain

Cambridge City FC Welcomes New Club Chaplain to Support Players, Staff and Community

Cambridge City Football Club is proud to announce the appointment of Graham Briscoe as our new Club Chaplain—a vital addition that reflects our deepening commitment to the wellbeing of everyone connected to the club.

Graham brings a strong background in pastoral care, community engagement, and personal support across both high-performance and everyday settings. His relationship with Cambridge City began in 2021, initially through a proposed partnership with Footgolf Unlimited. While that collaboration didn’t come to fruition, Graham continued to show his support, becoming a sponsor through his consultancy, Quality Driven Ltd. Since our move to Sawston, he’s become an active part of the club, volunteering as a match day steward and joining the Supporters’ Trust board.

“During my time with the Supporters’ Trust, I started thinking about how I could contribute more meaningfully,” said Graham. “I floated the idea of a Club Chaplain, not knowing if it would even be possible. With the club’s encouragement, I connected with Sports Chaplaincy UK, completed their training this year, and am now honoured to step into the role. For me, this brings together my love of football, faith, and community.”

As a committed Christian and a member of Great Shelford Free Church, Graham’s focus as Chaplain will be on offering confidential, non-judgemental support to anyone within the club—regardless of belief. “We’re not here to preach or hold services. We’re here to listen, support, and be a consistent, independent presence for players, staff, volunteers, and fans alike.”

Graham will be a regular presence at both Men’s and Women’s home games, available to offer a listening ear throughout the season. He will also support the club’s community outreach, further embedding our values beyond the pitch.

General Manager Alice Dewey said:

“At Cambridge City FC, we believe that success on the pitch starts with wellbeing off it. Appointing a chaplain is an important step in building a culture of care and connection across the club.”

We’re proud to welcome Graham to this new role and invite anyone wanting to learn more to stop for a chat at a game or contact him directly at chaplain@cambridge-city-fc.com.

I'm not a follower of any major faith but I'm pleased to see that the club has a chaplain, as it might encourage everyone involved with City to have values that transcend the superficial/selfish/commercial values which often seem to dominate sport and wider society these days.
