City to host GB Mens Deaf Football Team

Cambridge City FC is proud to announce that we will be hosting the Great Britain Men’s Deaf Football Team this month in a special match against a Cambridge City XI Team. The GB Deaf team are currently training and fundraising to go out to the Deaflympics in Tokyo in November, this will be their 20th Anniversary since they last won gold!

The match will kick off at 12 noon on Saturday 10th May at The FWD-IP Community Stadium in Sawston between Cambridge City XI and GB Men’s Deaf Team. Entry will be £5 or U16s free, further donations will be welcome as this entry fee will go towards helping the team reach their fundraising target to get to the Deaflympics which is about £300k a team.

As a club committed to supporting diversity and opportunity in football, we are honoured to welcome the GB Deaf Team to our home ground. This afternoon will not only showcase the extraordinary talent within the deaf football community, but also shine a light on the wider para-football landscape – a space where skill, resilience and passion take centre stage.

Deaf football continues to gain momentum, with teams representing their nations at major global events such as the Deaflympics and the IBSA World Championships. Played with slightly adapted rules to support communication, deaf football is a fast, fluid and technically demanding version of the game that deserves far greater visibility.

We invite football fans from across the region to join us for this inspiring occasion. Whether you’re a regular supporter or new to disability football come and join us…
