Hadleigh United 0 - 3 Cambridge City (match abandoned 45 mins)
While it's disappointing to have the match abandoned at half time it was very encouraging to see the team come through 45 minutes against a step 5 team, that is much fancied this season, without a scratch.
City dominated from the kick-off and capitalised on that pressure when Dan Cotton fired in at the back post after some great work from Stef Broccoli on 11 minutes. Stan Leach popped up with a second 2 minutes later in what can only be described as monsoon weather.
We continued to dominate the game and while the tackles were flying in, there was no excuse for the elbow that resulted in Pat Staszewski being withdrawn from the match with cut to the forehead, sadly it was not seen by the referee and the blatant foul play went unpunished.
As the rain persisted, so did Cities' resolve and determination, a nice move down the left resulted in a pile driver from Mikey Davies, the ball rifled into the bottom corner and past the hapless keeper in the Hadleigh Goal.
With City leading 3-0 the Brettsiders were looking for a miracle and it came in the form of the biblical weather, The two sides went off with the Hadleigh management team chirping in the referee's ear, and sure enough despite City returning to the pitch, Hadleigh never appeared forcing the ref's hand in calling the match to a halt.
With no confirmed date for the replay, we wait to see when we play again, hopefully by then the Hadleigh ground staff will have had time to find the lawnmower and the fork operators that mysteriously disappeared before halftime.
