Celebrating Our Volunteers: Honouring 50 Years of Dedication from Steve Plumb

Cambridge City Football Club is proud to celebrate the incredible commitment and hard work of our volunteers, the lifeblood of our club. From matchday stewards and coaches to those who keep our ground and facilities running smoothly, every volunteer plays a vital role in the success and spirit of the Lilywhites.

On Saturday at our home match against Gorleston, we were especially delighted to honour Steve Plumb, who marks an extraordinary 50 years of volunteering with Cambridge City FC.

Steve’s journey began in 1975 helping as car park attendant at our old stadium, then moved on to programme selling and many more match day tasks.

Steve joined the Supporters Trust as Chairman in 2020. In 2022 he took on the task of cutting the new stadium grass every fortnight and in November 2022 he started raking the 3G pitch every fortnight.

During the 21-22/ 2022-23 season, Steve was at the stadium most Sundays running a club shop stand with teas/coffees for the spectators watching our boys games, sometimes 1-2 games, this extended to 3 sometimes on a Sunday once we started playing on our 3G in Sawston.

Since opening the new stadium to matches in November 2024, Steve has been at the stadium weekly, and more recently daily doing maintenance tasks, cleaning and clearing up after matches along with other volunteers. Steve’s dedication and passion has made him a true pillar of our community.

Club Chairman, Kevin Satchell, said:

“Volunteers like Steve are the heartbeat of Cambridge City FC. To devote 50 years of service to one club is an extraordinary achievement. We are incredibly grateful for his unwavering commitment and for the example he sets for us all.”

Steve’s milestone reminds us that behind every match, every goal, and every moment on the pitch are the volunteers who give their time and energy to make it all possible.

As we celebrate Steve’s remarkable 50 years, we also say a heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers who continue to give so much to Cambridge City. Your dedication is what keeps our club thriving and our community strong.

If you’d like to get involved as a volunteer at Cambridge City FC, we’d love to hear from you.

Every helping hand makes a difference.
