Cambridge City FC is proud to announce a landmark new partnership with one of England’s amputee football teams as part of the club’s wider football family.

This partnership reflects Cambridge City FC’s commitment to inclusion, opportunity and supporting football in all its forms.
What is amputee football?
Amputee football is a fast-paced, highly skilled version of the game, played by athletes with limb loss or limb-affecting disabilities. Matches are played seven-a-side, with six outfield players and a goalkeeper.
Outfield players have lower-limb amputations and use forearm crutches, playing without prosthetic limbs, while goalkeepers typically have an upper-limb amputation. Games are played in two 25-minute halves and demand exceptional balance, technique, teamwork and fitness.
In England, the sport is governed by the England Amputee Football Association (EAFA), which oversees domestic competition and supports pathways into international football.
A national game, delivered differently
Unlike traditional club football, amputee football operates on a national model.
Players are spread across the country and come together for centrally organised competition, with league fixtures hosted at Reaseheath College near Nantwich. This structure allows athletes from all regions to compete regularly at a high standard, regardless of where they live.
As a result, while the amputee team will proudly carry the Cambridge City FC.
This partnership is not about location. It is about belonging, backing and representation. By affiliating the team, Cambridge City FC is providing a recognised football home, club identity and platform that helps raise the profile of amputee football while supporting players competing at the highest level of the domestic game.
Our Team will compete in the IKO England Amputee Football League against teams from Amputee Football Association Scotland, Everton and Chelsea.

A moment on the national stage
The timing of the partnership makes it particularly significant.
The team will soon compete in a major amputee football cup final at St George’s Park, the home of England’s national teams. The match will be broadcast live on TNT Sports as part of the Disability FA Cup finals coverage, showcasing amputee football to a national television audience.
For Cambridge City FC, it is a proud moment to see a team representing the club competing on one of English football’s most prestigious stages.
What it means for Cambridge City FC
Alice Dewey, CEO of Cambridge City FC, said:
“This partnership is something we’re incredibly proud of. Affiliating with the amputee team is about far more than football, it’s about representation, opportunity and recognising the quality of the game being played. While amputee football operates nationally and doesn’t fit the traditional club model, it deserves the same identity, backing and respect. We’re delighted that this team will now represent Cambridge City FC and we’re excited to support them as they compete on the national stage, including in their upcoming cup final at St George’s Park. This reflects the values of our club and our belief that football really is a game for everyone.”
