We managed to grab a few minutes with Club Owner Len Satchell about the opening of the stadium, here's what he had to say.
How does it feel coming into the stadium and seeing all this activity ahead of our opening game?
I am a very proud man I feel fantastic, I really do, it’s been a long time coming.
Do you have memories of Milton Road that stick in your mind?
When we got thrown out, it was a sad day, We’d put up a new stand and I remember taking all the bits that we could and bringing them to Sawston. My barn if full of memories from the old stadium. That was the worst time, but we never gave up. Everyone came together to keep the club alive and I think that's a fantastic thing.
You’ve done so much for this club, you must be pleased that the end is in sight?
This is a complete joint effort, the whole management of Cambridge City FC. In fact it’s more than that, it’s all the helpers, the volunteers that come every single week. We’re like one big family. I feel very proud of all of them.
Looking to the future, are you excited about the next steps for the club?
I’d like to see City go up a league at least. I think that’s what we should be aiming for, we’ve got the facilities now and we have to make the most of that. I think the management team we have are doing a very good job, and we’ve got some excellent players that I think will help us climb back up the ladder. But is thanks to everybody, all these people here today giving up their time, it’s wonderful.
We kick of the new era on Saturday 30th November against Tilbury FC. You can get tickets for the game here
