4 defeats in 5 for City

An injury and suspension ravaged City side took on high flying Bury Town in the Pitching In Isthmian League at Westwood Road this afternoon Missing were first choice players Jack Thompson, Aaron Greene, Alex Warman, Alfie Mason, Ed Tassell and Goalkeeper Tom Middlehurst, but despite this it was the Lilywhites that opened the scoring, Marcel Lewis linking up brilliantly with George Smith on 20 mins to give us the lead.

Bury were dominating possession in the first half and equalised on 30 mins though a Jayden Gipson own goal. 1 minute later George Smith went down off the ball and had to be replaced by Shane Temple.

With the scores level at half time, City came out for the second half on the front foot, Shane Temple clean through made no mistake with a clean finish into the bottom corner on 46 minutes.

The worrying trend of conceding goals in quick succession came back to haunt us, City old boy Taylor Parr levelled the scores on 55 mins and Luke Bowman put Bury ahead on 56 mins as City fell behind for the first time in the game.

This sparked the best spell off the game for Cureton's men as they took the game to Bury but a 91st minute strike from Max Maughn killed the game. The final score Cambridge City 2-4 Bury Town

A special mention to Gene Ghag who was recalled from his loan with Harborough U23s as a replacement for Middlehurst. The 18 year old made his first team competitive debut and did an outstanding job, making some crucial saves.
