Initial work at the new stadium site in Sawston is poised to start in the coming weeks.

The work will see the access road to the stadium being developed as well as construction of a pedestrian footpath and cycle way. The construction of a footpath is a planning requirement and will form safe access to the site for both pedestrians and cyclists from Grove Road which adjoins the new access road.

The actual stadium construction looks likely to be authorised in May with building work anticipated to start shortly afterwards.

City Vice-Chairman and Stadium Project Director Terry Dunn said “To get these initial works started is significant as it will give everyone the first proper indication of what access to the stadium will look like. Furthermore, the new access road belongs to the club, so in time we will be looking to name it with something connected to Cambridge City which will give us a real sense of identity. Once this initial work is completed, the focus will then turn to the construction phase which will really excite our supporters and give them belief that our years in the wilderness are coming to an end”.

The site in Sawston will see a 3,000 capacity stadium and community facility built which will be a new home for Cambridge City after they vacated their historic Milton Road stadium in 2013.
