It was a very young City Development Team with 7 youth team players in a starting line up that included only two players, goalkeeper Joe Mitten and Assistant Manager Lewis Carter, over the age of 21, in a game where a win was required to guarantee they would finish out of the relegation zone.

Early play was very end to end but City, who were playing down the slope, gradually took the upper hand and created some dangerous attacking moves, but it took until the 24th minute to open the scoring.

Alex Lyratzopoulos swung the ball out to the left finding James Tee. His cross found Josh Lowe who slotted it home.

City continued to press and looked like increasing their lead.

In the 30th minute a 30 yard Gamlingay shot required a diving one handed save from keeper Joe Mitten to push the ball off the post and away for a corner.

The half finished with City looking much the better side and perhaps unlucky to be only one goal up.

Half time: Gamlingay 0 City Development 1.

Gamlingay were kicking down the slope in the second half and for most of the half kept the City youngsters pinned in their own half.

James Brown was outstanding in a City defence under constant onslaught. But the Gamlingay goals came from two set pieces.
The first one from a corner in the 75th minute and 2 minutes later the second one from a soft free kick awarded just outside the area.

City continued to defend valiantly and on the break always looked dangerous, but tired legs didn't help and at the final whistle it was an exhausted battered and bruised team who had given their all.

Final score: Gamlingay 2 City Development 1.

City team: Joe Mitten, Connor Loker, Harry England, James Brown, Zac Tyrrell, Lewis Carter, Alex Lyratzopoulos, Harvey Bullin (C), Josh Lowe, Harry Farrow, James Tee.
Subs: Will Jones, Karel Prince.

Results elsewhere mean City have avoided the relegation zone.

They have two games left this season.
Monday 30th April 6.45pm - at home to Hemingford Utd.
Wednesday 2nd May 6.45pm - away to Linton Granta.
