Defensive woes still undermining City

EVO-STIK South - East Division: Beaconsfield Town 3 Cambridge City 2

Two form sides clashed in this six pointer as City looked to close the five point gap that has opened up between themselves and Beaconsfield. However, despite coming from one down to lead the game, City's defensive frailties showed themselves again, allowing the home side to claim the spoils.

Following a tight first half of few chances, the sides turned round all square at 0-0, but the second period was a different story with the sides trading five goals.

City were the first to concede when they failed to to deal with a long clearance from the home keeper and Aaron Minhas nipped in to poke the ball past debut making Charlie Bannister in the City goal.

It was not long before City were level though. Only five minutes had passed when Ryan Sharman latched onto a Ryan Towner pass, held off his marker and slipped the ball into the net.

City continued to press and were rewarded with the lead when James Hall was given plenty of time to control and turn, beating the home keeper with a precise shot.

Having wrestled the lead from their hosts, City looked set fair, but Beaconsfield had other ideas, and a good cross picked out Minhas, who volleyed his second of the game.

With the game in its final moments, City again failed to deal with a cross into their box and Minhas pounced on a weak punch from Bannister to smash home and claim his hattrick, dropping City to 5th in the table in the process, while Beaconsfield moved eight points clear of the Lilywhites.
