Cambrige City Supporters Trust have released a statement in response to the groundshare announcement that the Lilywhites will be playing at Newmarket from next season. It reads:

Cambridge City Football Club, whose lease on their Milton Road ground runs out at the end of this season, have agreed a deal with Newmarket which would see the club remain in Cambridgeshire while long term relocation plans progress.

Derek Bailham, chair of the supporters trust, said today “This deal represents the best that could realistically been hoped for by City fans. The facilities at their Cricketfield Road ground are good, and will provide an excellent temporary home for our club. The supporters trust acknowledge the tremendous efforts the club board have undertaken to secure this deal, and thank Newmarket Town FC for their offer.

Bailham added: “Fans of Cambridge City are renowned for their loyalty, and we are highly confident that attendances will continue to be good during the groundshare. The supporters trust will play their part by looking at travel options for fans including organising a car share database to match up supporters without transport with car drivers who have spare capacity. We have no doubt that City fans will rally round and make this move work.”
