In this week's Ladies and Girls round up, we are extremely proud to be able to congratulate not one, but two of our talented young girls teams who won their respective FA National Futsal Finals over the weekend at the home of English football - St Georgeís Park. Both teams progressed to this stage having first won their county and regional tournaments earlier in the season. Coincidentally, both City teams faced strong opposition from Devon and Cornwall in their finals.

Under 10s

Cambridge City 4 : 3 Illogan Dragons

On Saturday, City under 10s travelled north to St Georges Park at Burton to face Illogan Dragons from Cornwall in the decider for the FA Futsal crown. Under the expert guidance of manager Will Dopadlik and coach Katie Crook, this talented group of City girls ran out winners in what turned out to be a very tense contest. Although City fell behind to an early goal, they quickly bounced back to take a 2-1 lead. The game then swung back in favour of the Cornish team who edged in front again with another couple of goals. Not prepared to give up, the Lilywhites hit back yet again to level the score as the game went into injury time. In true cup final tradition, the game was won deep into time added on when City scored their fourth and final goal. There was no coming back for Illogan who should also be congratulated for contributing to a great game. City send their best wishes to the two Illogan players who picked up injuries.

Manager Will Dopadlik and Coach Katie Crook looking pretty proud too!

The progress that this team has made over the last 12 months is phenomenal and they should be extremely proud of their success. Their determination to bring the cup home to Cambridge was evident for all to see on Saturday. Well done to all concerned.

Under 14s

Cambridge City 3 : 1 Plymouth Aspire

On Sunday, it was the turn of the under 14s to represent City, the largest female football club in the region. This particular team are no strangers to winning national competitions (Aces 2018 and ESF 2018) and once again they returned home with silverware having beaten a talented Plymouth side.

Under 14s - National champs is becoming a habit

City started slowly, taking the opportunity to weigh up the unfamiliar opposition before they started to exert themselves and take a hold of the game. A lovely move by City set up Ruby Austin to open the scoring. By half time, Emily Lucas had added a second, giving the Lilywhites a reasonable advantage at half time. Ruby Austin hit the third for City before the Devon side pulled a goal back with five minutes remaining. Plymouth rallied, but Grace Joslin in the City goal was equal to anything they could test her with. City also had their own chances to put the game to bed but they too were thwarted by some fantastic saves, this time from the Plymouth keeper. Two great sides, but finals demand winners and this time it went the way of the City girls.

Under 9s

City entertained Sawston on Saturday. A sizeable gathering of parents and grandparents etc were treated to another entertaining display of football, brimming with the most important ingredient of fun, together with a fair sprinkling of goals and skills.

Under 12s

Swavesey Spartans 1 : 10 Cambridge City

On Saturday, the under 12s travelled to Swavesey in what turned out to be cold and windy conditions. The last time the two teams met, the hosts played really well, so City were taking nothing for granted. The Lilywhites put on a very good show this time around and played some nice football, especially out wide in the in the second half. Swavesey deservedly got a consolation goal but City finished comfortable winners. Six different girls got their names on the score sheet: Bella grabbed herself a hat-trick, Phoebe and Kia each got a couple and there were also goals for Poppy, Amelia and a first goal of the season for defender Libby which Iím sure will be one of the highlights for a lot of people. This result, confirms that City deservedly secure the league title. Well done!

Under 12s now know they have won the title. They will be going for the double when they take on Coton in the Cup on Saturday

Under 14Bs

Cambridge City 2 : 1 Peterborough Northern Star

As the season draws to a close, a home victory for City over PNS ensured that the visitors could not leap-frog them in the table and claim third spot from the hosts. A another great display from City, with Isobel Hayes scoring both goals to claim maximum points.

Development

Cambridge City 3 : 0 Cambridge University

Having already secured the Cambs S-Tech Women's Premiership title last week, the Ladies Development team used this penultimate league fixture against the University to weigh up the opposition who coincidentally they will also be facing on Wednesday evening in the Women's League Cup final at Histon. City will be hoping that things go much the same mid-week. Goals from Becky Langthorne, Freya Standing and Megan Tonks secured the points for the home side.
