The strong cross wind and bumpy pitch did not bode well for the game, but the young City side coped well with the conditions and played some attractive football in what turned out to be an entertaining game.
Entertaining it may have been, and the performance put a smile on the faces of the City management team, but the score line was frustrating and did not reflect the performance of the lads.
City kicked off and had their fare share of possession in the early end to end play, but Brampton were creating the majority of the attacking moves.
City had a chance to open the scoring when Jude White's cross from the left flashed across the goalmouth and was pushed away for a corner.
After 25 minutes play Brampton scored the only goal of the game with a well worked move.
The City youngsters started to press for an equaliser and Jude White came close again with a screaming thirty yard shot that skimmed over the bar.
As the half progressed City, with Will Evans and Harrison Horton providing a solid midfield, were starting to look dangerous and, as best as the conditions would allow, attempting a slick passing game.
Half Time: Brampton 1 City Development 0.
The second half opened with a City onslaught. Within the first 5 minutes we saw a Ricardo Green cross from the left find Bobby Freil, whose shot went wide, and both Will Evans and Jude White coming close.
As the half progressed City were, for large parts of the game, dominant. An abundance of ball out to Ricardo Green on the left wing allowed him to be a constant threat to the home side and in the middle of the park Jude White always looked dangerous.
It was a Ricardo Green cross from the left that found Harrison Horton in the goalmouth, but Harrison's shot, from from close in rebounded of the flummoxed keeper.
As City threw more players forward Brampton's attacks were limited to breakaways but the City defence, with Ben Steele living up to his name, stood firm, and youth goalkeeper Brad Green was showing a safe pair of hands between the posts.
It was a frustrated City team and a relieved home side at the final whistle.
Final score: Brampton 1 City Development 0.
The game showed how much these City youngsters have developed during the season, a fact that is perhaps more important than the result.
City Team: Brad Green, Ben Steele, Connor Woodrow, Will Evans, Victor Garcia, Matt Jenkins, Finn Cater, Harrison Horton, Bobby Freil, Jude White, Ricardo Green.
Subs (Both used): Rob Scrutton, Tom Goodjohn.
The Development team's final game of the season is a home fixture against Foxton in a week's time.
