It was three well earned points for the Development Team for a performance that belied their position at the bottom of the league.
It was a tentative start for the City youngsters as the visitors came close to opening the score in the 3rd minute, but keeper Joe Isaacson was the saviour, blocking the shot from two yards out.
Both teams were trying to play an open game. As the game progressed City found themselves under increasing pressure, but the defence was resolute, as was keeper Isaacson.
Play was not all one sided and on the break, City looked dangerous with Bobby Freil and Ricardo Green working well together on the right flank to stretch the Eaton Socon defence.
In the 12th minute, somewhat against the run of play, City opened the scoring when Bobby Freil crossed from the right and found George Rayner at the far post who coolly tapped it into the net to make it City 1 Eaton Socon 0.
Both sides were now creating threats, but the visitors threats were coming more frequently. City were putting some good moves together, playing some nice one-touch football, and fighting for every ball with veterans Lewis Carter and Rob Scrutton giving the lead.
Half time: City Development 1 Eaton Socon 0.
The second half saw a City side increasing in confidence as the game went on and a second City goal was looking the more likely outcome than an equaliser from the visitors.
It nearly came in the 60th minute when, following excellent work by Ricardo Green and Jude White down the left, Ricardo's shot, which was heading into the top corner of the net, was caught by the wind and hit the post.
The second goal finally came in the 83rd minute. Jude White, picked up the ball on the half way line, outran the defenders and slipped it past the keeper to make it 2 - o.
The game seemed won, but Eaton Socon threw everything into attack and were rewarded with a penalty in the 90th minute, which they converted to make it 2 -1.
Two minutes into what turned out to be six minutes stoppage time, Jude White again picked up the ball on the half way line. This time he out run all the defenders bar one, and was brought down on the edge of the penalty box. Lewis Carter took the kick, but the visitors defensive wall blocked his shot.
It was a desperate final few minutes as City held on against an onslaught from the visitors.
