It was a disappointing afternoon for the City Development Team against a strong physical home side in a rather niggardly game.
All the early pressure came from St. Neots as City took a while to settle, but they gradually started to come into the game, although frequently coming off 2nd best against what was a physically strong defence who were taking no prisoners.
After 27th minutes City came close to opening the scoring when Lewis Carter took a quick free kick to Aaron Hiscock out on the left. Hiscock's cross beat the keeper and defence but Morgan Cogman Wright at the far post was inches short of getting his head to the ball.
Five minutes later, a badly headed clearence from the St Neots defence found Hiscock who made space for himself and slotted home from five yards inside the area to put City one goal up.
City were now looking dominant. Harry Farrow made good ground down the right and crossed for Bobby Freil, but he couldn't quite get over the ball and skied it way over the bar.
Half time: St Neots 0 City Development 1.
The second half saw the home team come out with all guns firing and the visitors defending desperately, with City attacks few and far between.
The inevitable equalizing goal came in the 76th minute with a lob over the keeper and five minutes later a goal mouth scramble saw St Neots get the ball in the net again to take the lead.
City fought to get back on equal terms, but their attacks were becoming rather frenetic in what was a 'catch-weight' contest between the City strike force and the St Neots defenders.
Two minutes from normal time, it was sloppy defending that allowed St Neots to get their third goal.
Final score: St Neots Reserves 3 City Development 1.
