The uninformed spectator would have found it difficult to distinguish which of the teams was lying third in the table and which one was propping it up in this close encounter in Cambourne.
West Wratting opened up with all guns firing and put the City side under pressure, nearly opening the scoring in the 4th minute, but they were foiled by a goal line clearence.
The City defence weathered this early pressure and in the 12th minute Jude White put West Wratting under pressure with a solo run down the right, beating four players, but not the fifth, but two minutes later, at the other end, a well taken header from a corner put West Wratting a goal up.
City were now being stretched in defence, but at the same time creating some useful breakaway attacks when in possession.
Good interplay between Tom Goodjohn and Jude White opened up the West Wratting defence, but they had to settle for a corner, and, Tom Goodjohn was robbed when a through ball from Chris Racher was snatched off his outstretched toe by the onrushing keeper.
In the 43rd minute it was again, Tom Goodjohn and Jude White who worked well to brake through but a rapidly retreating West Wratting defence managed to scramble the shot away.
Half Time: City Development 0 West Wratting 1.
The second half opened with City having more than their share of the play and looking the more dangerous, but West Wratting had two good chances. Hitting the post in the 50th minute and, in the 64th minute pulling a fine save from youth goal keeper, Brad Green, making his Development Team debut, when he had to push a West Wratting rocket over the bar for a corner.
As the half progressed City were producing some attractive fluent football with Jude White having an outstanding game in midfield and causing the opposition considerable problems.
In defence, City were stretched, but looking stronger as the game progressed. Mapeo Mendes was getting though a lot of work and playing a major role in blunting the West Wratting attack.
An equaliser always looked possible, but although City were causing problems for the visitors defence, they couldn't get the ball in the net.
