The score line doesn't do justice to the City youngsters' performance at 2nd placed Fulbourn.
From the whistle, both teams were looking to create chances as play swung from end to end, but, in the 14th minute, just as Fulbourn looked to be getting a firm grip on the game, Harry Farrow broke through the Fulbourn defence, cut inside and beat the onrushing keeper to make it Fulbourn 0 City 1.
City now had their tails up and were having more than their fair share of play. The speed of Harry Farrow, Christian Carter and Claudio Sousa, causing the Fulbourn defence problems.
In the 26th minute Tommy Rigby and Christian Carter worked well and Harry Farrow finished off the move, pulling a fine one-handed save out of the Fulbourn keeper, but the ball went straight back down the other end for Fulbournto hit the post.
The City defence, with captain Mapeo Mendes leading by example, were looking very solid but, in the 40th minute Fulbourn managed to break through and level the score.
City were playing attractive football at a good pace and continued to look dangerous, especially on the break, repeatedly stretching the Fulbourn defences, but they couldn't increase their lead and the half finished at: Fulbourn 1 City Development 1.
In the 2nd half the strength and experience of the home team finally shone through and after five minutes of constant pressure, Fulbourn took the lead.
Shortly afterwards they came close to increasing that lead when City stand-in keeper, ex-manager Andy Jolley and the cross bar juggled the ball between them, Andy finally falling on the ball inches from the line.
In the 65th minute it looked as though ex-City player Tommy Wright would put Fulbourn further ahead but his chip not only cleared keeper Jolley, but also the crossbar.
Ten minutes later it was a long range shot that dropped out of the setting sun and into the back of the net to give Fulbourn their third goal.
Fulbourn kept up the pressure, but City showed they were still in the game and continued to create attacking moves threatening to reduce the arrears.
With 2 minutes to go Fulbourn scored their final goal as this time, with just the keeper to beat, Tommy Wright made no mistake.
Final score: Fulbourn 4 City Development 1
It was a good display from a promising young City team in an entertaining game played in good spirit. But the experience of the home side was the deciding factor.
