There were several new faces and an unfamiliar line-up for the Development Team as they kicked off playing against the sun and into the wind.
Cherryhinton threatened early on and from their first corner City keeper Toby Moring had to push the resultant header over the bar.
Most of the first half play was in the City half, but the City defence, marshalled by Gui Milainocol, were minimising the pressure on the City keeper. But in the 40th minute, after constant pressure, Cherryhinton took a well deserved lead.
In the closing minutes of the half Cherryhinton came close to increasing that lead when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, only to see the ball hit the defensive wall and be scrambled away.
Half time: Cherryhinton 1 City Development 0.
As the second half opened, so did the heavens, and the half was played in driving rain with a dramatic reduction in visibility.
Play was more even, with City having their fair share of the ball and their attack looking sharper than in the first half.
In the 52nd minute Aaron Hiscock's cross from the left found Jack Challis but with just the keeper to beat his first time shot went just wide of the post and 2 minutes later, a fine effort from Jamie Judge was pushed away by the diving Cherryhinton keeper.
Ten minutes later a well executed header made it 2 -0 for Cherryhinton.
The deteriorating conditions of driving rain and a slippery surface were making it difficult for both teams as the Development Team fought to reduce the arrears but it finished with a final score of:
Cherryhinton 2 City Development Team 0.
