The Development Team is about learning, and there were lessons for the City youngsters to learn from this game. In particular, you cannot gift two goals to a strong and experienced opponent without consequences.

Bar Hill kicked off, but with just two minutes on the clock City had the first chance to open the scoring when Jamie Judge received a long ball on the edge of the box. It came down out of the sun and was difficult to control, but in spite of being squeezed by two defenders Jamie managed to get his shot away, only to see it comfortably taken by the Bar Hill keeper.

The game was slow to settle into a pattern with City relying on long balls to Jamie Judge whilst at the other end the City goal had several lucky escapes as Bar Hill pressed, but couldn't get the ball in the net.

City started to settle down and create some useful moves. In attempting to break through the middle, Jude White was brought down a few yards outside the box. He took the resultant free kick himself but failed to clear the defensive wall.

Three minutes before half time Harry England used his pace to make ground down the left and get his cross in. At the near post, the keeper failed to get a hand to it and it crossed the face of the goal just inches away from the heads of both Jamie Judge and Morgan Stephens.

Two minutes later, at the other end, Claudio Sousa, with adequate time to clear the ball, dallied a few seconds too long allowing an alert opponent to rush in and whip the ball of his feet then slot it home, to give a half time score of Bar Hill 1 City Development Team 0.

The second half saw the experienced Bar Hill side start to dominate the game and in the 57th minute Kieran Petty, in the City goal, miss hit his clearence and saw the ball rebound of a Bar Hill attacker, who comfortably tapped it into the net to make it 2 - 0 for Bar Hill.

Five minute later Kieran partially redeemed himself with a fine reflex save when a third goal looked a certainty, but two minutes later the Bar Hill lead was increased with that third goal.

Bar Hill were now playing some attractive football, causing City problems, and a well worked move ended with a fine header for their fourth goal.

However, the tiring City youngsters did not capitulate, and with six minutes to go, Jude White worked space for himself down the left wing and crossed for the onrushing Tom Goodjohn to volley home for a consolation City goal.

As the game entered it's final phase, the City youngsters, rejuvenated by their goal, pressed to reduce the arrears, but to no avail.

Final Score: Bar Hill SSC 4 City Development Team 1.
