There was several regular faces missing in the Development Side when they took on a strong Eynesbury Rovers side, many of whom had several years experience of higher league football.
City kicked off and had an early chance after 4 minutes when Jude White hooked through for Harry Farrow whose shot, from a narrow angle, was comfortably gathered by the home keeper.
Eynesbury were making full use of the wide pitch and started to put City under pressure, but the Development Team, with the industrious Jude White in midfield were looking threatening on the break.
It was in the 28th minute that Eynesbury opened the scoring when, following a corner on the right, they won the goalmouth scramble.
Three minutes later City came close to equaling the score when Christian Carter did well to beat two men, cut inside and square the ball for Jude White, whose shot just skimmed over the bar.
Shortly after Bradley Cann put through for Harry Farrow, but his first time shot from outside the box was well covered by the keeper.
At the other end Toby Moring was doing sterling work in the City goal.
As half time approached City were having more than their share of the game. After good work on the right Jorginho Gomes crossed for Harry Farrow, but his shot was deflected into the keepers arms.
Half time score: Eynesbury 1 City 0.
The opening ten minutes of the second half saw both sides creating some good moves, but the killer blows came in the 54th and 56th minutes when Eynesbury twice prised open the City defence to make it 3 -0.
City upped the pace and fought to get back into the game but the difference was the physical strength of the Eynesbury side and as City pushed for a consolation goal their defence was stretched and twice more breached.
The final score of Eynesbury Reserves 5 City Development Team 0 was rather harsh on a young City side, some of whom had already played 120 minutes football two days earlier in a hard fought FA Youth Cup match, who never let their heads drop, but continued to play attractive and skillful football as they fought for the full 90 minutes.
