The young City side did not disgrace themselves against a strong and experienced home side.
Early play was fairly even as the teams sized each other up, the first real scoring chance coming in the 9th minute from Foxton, but it was comfortably saved by a diving Toby Moring in the City goal.
3 Minutes later it was Adam Capel who got his head to a Lewis Carter corner from the right and made it City 1 Foxton 0.
Foxton upped the pressure and City had a lucky escape in the 17th minute when Foxton put the ball in the back of the net, only for the referee to adjudge that it had been kicked out of the keeper's hands, and 3 minutes later Foxton hit the post.
Foxton were now putting the City youngsters under sustained pressure, the majority of the play taking place in the City half, where Adam Capel was doing sterling work, and an equaliser looked imminent, but City held on for a half time score of:
Foxton 0 City Development 1.
The second half started as the first half had finished, with City under pressure, and after 3 minutes Foxton equalised when they were awarded a free kick, from which the ball was scrambled into the net.
City came close to taking back the lead in the 58th minute. Harry England crossed from the left, but Bradley Cann's shot was pushed away for a corner.
Youth team goalkeeper Toby Moring was making his Development Team debut and for 89 minutes he gave a more than useful performance and pulled off several useful saves, but in the 58th minute he dallied and tarried with a back pass, allowing an onrushing opposition player to pinch the ball off his foot and put it in the back of the net as Foxton made it 2 - 1.
Foxton kept up the pressure as they tried to increase their lead but, in defence, City stood firm and, on the break, they looked dangerous in attack.
With 13 minutes to go the Foxton keeper did well to stop a 30 yard drive from Harry England and 2 minutes later, Chris Racher did well to work his way through the middle of the park but with an onrushing keeper, he shot just wide of the post.
City were now looking the most likely to score as they used the full width of the pitch to create attacking moves and fought for the equaliser. But it was not to be.
