Stadium Update – September 2018

The club can now provide the latest update on the new stadium in Sawston for Cambridge City Football Club.

Quotations for the stadium build

The architects for the ground – KWA Architect and Planning Consultants – who are providing project management expertise to the club, have continued to put the work on the new ground out to tender and recent quotations have been positive. One in particular would give the opportunity for the entire ground to be built by a single company at a price very close to the club’s original budget. Discussions are continuing with the company concerned but the club remains optimistic that the ground that fans see at Sawston will match our original vision.

Application for Grants

Fans may be aware that various sporting bodies provide grants to assist with sporting developments, both locally and nationally. The club will naturally be making maximum use of these, and Stadium Project Director Terry Dunn will be working alongside a consultant who specialises in this area. Grants can be used to provide financial assistance on a specific part of the build (for instance the changing rooms, or the pitch) and usually need to be agreed prior to work on that area starting.

From the Stadium Project Director

Terry Dunn, the Stadium Project Director said “Following the September board meeting we are now in a position to release this encouraging news. The recent quotations from building companies provide an excellent basis for us to move forward and I and others will be busy finalising details.

There is still a lot of work to do to get the sequencing of the development right.

Grants need to be applied for at the right time and there will need to be some effort in getting the application right first time so it is crucial we make use of external experts in this area. Overall, the last month has been encouraging."
