Player unavailability meant City were only able to name one sub in a team that included Ross Paterson and Lewis Whitehead returning from injury.
Both teams had early chances but, in the 12th minute, it was a poor pass from defence that lead to Fulbourn opening the scoring.
Lewis Whitehead came close to leveling the score when he hit the bar, but 10 minutes from half time Fulbourn took a 2 goal lead.
Half time : City Development 0 Fulbourn Institute 2.
The 2nd half saw Fulbourn, with the luxury of a full bench, making intelligent use of the rotating subs rule to keep up the pressure and ex-city player, Tommy Wright, who had been kept under control by Henry Hall in the first half, managed to break free and score twice to give the visitors a 4 goal lead.
City, with only one sub available, were bereft of fresh legs and struggling, but heads didn't drop and it was the ever effervescent Jude White who, in the 90th minute, instigated their consolation goal when he swung a ball out to the left for Ross Paterson to drive home from 20 yards.
Final score: City Development 1 Fulbourn Institute 4.
A disappointing outcome for City. The visitors deserved the win but the final score did not reflect the performance of the City side.
City Team: Kieran Petty, James Brown, Sam Minns, Morgan Cogman-Wright, Henry Hall, Ben Tulloch, Reece Palmer, Ross Paterson (C), Jason Lynch, Jude White, Lewis Whitehead.
Sub: Tom Goodjohn.
