Histon Tournament

City Girls teams were out in force on Sunday at the annual Histon Hornets Tournament, held in the grounds of Impington Village College. As ever, a very well organised event, blessed with wall to wall sunshine.

The under 10s - Tournament Champions

The stars of the show from the Lilywhites perspective were the talented under 10s team with manager Will Dopadlik at the helm. The young girls played extremely well throughout the day and the icing on the cake was a 2-0 victory over Haddenham in the final. This meant, for the second week running, that the under 10s had lifted silverware - so that's now actually a hat-trick of tournament successes for these girls in recent weeks. A big welcome also goes out to the two new girls who wore a City shirt for the first time. Great to have you on board. Well done to all of the girls, some truly exceptional performances, showing once again what fantastic young talent is coming up through the ranks.

Although the rest of the City teams also did well at Histon, they couldn't quite match the success of the under 10s. The under 11s came so close in their final but were unfortunate to lose out on penalties to near neighbours Coton. Such a heart breaking way to lose out, but you should be very proud of having come so close. The under 12s also made the final showdown but had to be content with the runners up spot, losing out to a single goal to Pinchbeck in a game that they dominated, but despite hitting the bar and the post, the ball just wouldn't go in. And lastly, although the under 14s arrived at their final having won all their previous games, they were pipped at the post by Cambourne. Most importantly though, everyone representing the Lilywhites at Histon appeared to have had a great day and 'Girls Football' was the big winner.

Another week - another national title

Having secured the ACES National title last weekend, the other City under 12 team made the pilgrimage to St Georges Park on Sunday to contest the ESF Football Tours finals. What a time to play at the home of English football with the national team on such a high. Managed by Sheridan Henry with assistant Danny Want, the team had earned their place to contest the finals having qualified from the regionals. To claim the title, City would need to see off some very strong competition. Did they do it? Most definitely! The girls raised the bar of achievement even higher and recorded three straight wins: 1-0 v Wickersley, 2-0 v Denham and 4-0 v AFC Leyton. Not a bad way to round off a phenomenal season. At their age group, this team must be the most successful outfit in the country. Before the girls take a well earned rest, one final task - a lap of honour at the City first team friendly match against Cambridge United tonight (Tuesday) at Histon FC.
