The visit to high flying Linton Granta was always going to be a difficult one.
Player availability was restricted, due to the youth team having a game on the same evening, and a team, many of whom were carrying niggling injuries and weary from too many games in too short a time, willing, but running on empty tanks.
From the kick off the team lacked their usual verve and pace, but there was no excuse for the somnolence in the first 5 minutes which resulted in an opening goal for Linton, sandwiched between two diving saves from goalkeeper Lewis Fairley.
City started to come into the game and create some attacking moves, but never really threatened. However, the defence held firm until the 30th minute when Linton went two goals up, five minutes later making it three.
Half time: Linton Granta 3 City Development 0
The 2nd half opened with Linton scoring twice more by the 50th minute but City managed to tighten up their defence, with goalkeeper Lewis Fairley and Connor Loker and Lewis Carter doing sterling work, and hold out until full time.
