It was a courageous performance from a depleted City side in what was always going to be a hard game against a strong University Press side.
Player availability and injuries resulted in manager Andy Jolley having to name himself as the only substitute in a team which contained several players playing their fourth game in five days and outfield player Victor Garcia between the posts.
All the early pressure came from the visitors. Their opening goal coming after 13 minutes with further goals in the 17th, 22nd and 33rd minutes to lead by 4 goals to nil.
City managed to reduce the arrears two minutes later when Isaac Maynard made space for himself in the middle of the park and slipped a through ball for Josh Lowe, whose left footed shot beat the diving Press keeper.
In the 36th minute, Buster Harradine, who had been bravely struggling for 30 minutes with an injury, finally limped off and was replaced by manager Andy Jolley.
Half time: City Development 1 University Press 4.
Four minutes into the 2nd half, following a free kick, Press made it 5.
City now started to control more of the game. They were playing some attractive and constructive football and looked like reducing the deficit. Harry England hit the bar and the visiting keeper was forced into several acrobatic saves, but they were unrewarded.
As the game entered it's final 10 minutes and the City players tired, Press squeezed in their last two goals to give a final score that did not reflect on the performance of the City youngsters.
