A below par performance from the Development Team as they scrambled through to the next round of the Cliff Bullen Challenge Cup.
The City side suffered an early setback when in the 2nd minute Ryan Woodman was injured and had to be helped from the pitch and replaced.
The Development team were lacking their usual verve, but created the majority of the chances and took the lead in the 36th minute when Isaac Maynard, receiving the ball from David Ezeigbo, put through for Josh Lowe to beat the keeper. One minute later Josh could have had his second goal. David Ezeigbo was brought down in the box. Josh Lowe took the penalty hitting it low and hard to the left but the Girton keeper guessed correctly and dived to push it away.
Half time: Girton 0 City 1.
Ten minutes into the second half Girton levelled the score following a corner, but in the 70th minute, Isaac Maynard's cross from the left found Connor Locker, who slipped it past the keeper for City's 2nd goal.
In the 90th minute, Pablo Hernandez won the ball but, to the incredulity of both sides, had a penalty awarded against him. Girton made it 2-2.
Four minutes into added time, City were awarded a free kick 10 yards outside the box. Sergio Martinez took the kick, Connor Loker's shot was stopped, but Josh Lowe was there to tap it into the net and give City the winning goal.
Final score: Girton Utd 2 City Development 3.
