EVO-STIK Premier Division: Weymouth 2 Cambridge City 0

The relegation trapdoor creaked open just a little more as City failed to end their recent run of defeats.

City began the game brightly enough, but it was Weymouth who carried the greater threat going forward. Stuart Fleetwood was an ever present threat as the home side moved the ball around neatly, however, City almost broke through on 20 minutes when Matt Foy latched onto a through ball, but Stephane Zubar was on hand to deal with the danger. Moments later, Fleetwood had a sighter, forcing Dean Snedker to produce a good stop to keep out his stinging drive.

The home sides momentum was beginning to build and Aaron Rodriguez wriggled his way through before seeing his shot blocked. The ball fell to Fleetwood, but his finish lacked power and Snedker saved. The home side finally made their breakthrough just past the half hour mark, when Rodriguez unleashed an unstoppable shot from distance, giving Snedker no chance as the ball flew into the top right corner. City needed a quick response but could find none and went in at the break a goal down.

Things didn't improve in the second half for City when a mistake by Snedker gifted Weymouth their second just before the hour. The City stopper got caught in possession leaving Calvin Brooke's the simple task of rolling the ball into the net. Weymouth weren't happy to sit back and Rodriguez, Fleetwood and Billy Loews all had efforts that came close to finding the killer third goal. It was probably not needed though as City showed few signs of getting back into the contest.

With ten minutes left, City received another blow when Paul Cooper was stretchered from the pitch. Having used all three subs, this left City with ten men for the final minutes. Strangely, going down to ten saw City produce their best spell, hitting the post and seeing the follow up blocked, as they looked for what would have been only a consolation. It wasn't to be though and City recorded their third defeat in a row. A run of results that couldn't have come at a worse time as City battle for their Premier Division survival.
