It was good to get back to winning ways in the league, and at Didcot we could have quite easily have won by a greater margin.
Ahead of the game, I knew that we were going to be without Lee Chaffey following his injury at Eastwood last weekend, and I was concerned that it might disrupt us a bit as both Lee and Dave Theobald have played regularly together for a long time now, but Milton Elenge came in and did OK in his absence.
I thought we started the game well and had a couple of opportunities before Didcot scored. With their goal, we maybe could have been a bit sharper, but I wasn’t complaining too much at half-time because not only had we pulled level, but were also in front.
Both of our goals were well taken. Craig Hughes in particular had a good game for us, and I am pleased he opened his account with us. Craig Hammond took his goal well, and could have quite easily had another, as he has had one ruled out for offside and another where the keeper has made a save which the referee thought he had clawed off the line, but the reality was that it was a good couple of feet over the line.
Obviously the opportunities for Didcot to get back in the game were somewhat hampered once they went down to 10 men. That said, we took nothing for granted and I was pleased as to how we saw the game out to secure the points.
It was a good win for us, and puts us joint second with Salisbury albeit having played a game more than them.
The last few weeks have been a bit difficult, but we’re still in touch, and I feel the confidence is back in the squad. I could see that happening on Tuesday when we played Arlesey, and that was a much-needed win for us.
Clearly we have a big test next week with Truro coming to Milton Road. They have a lot of experienced players, and we know that we will have to be at our best if we are to get any kind of result. We are all aware that if we get something against them, then that will give us a big boost going into the next batch of games.
In terms of injuries, we lost David Kolodynski after about half an hour yesterday. Kolo has injured his hamstring and potentially could be out for around 3 weeks. Lee Chaffey hopes to start doing some running this week in training, and is rated at this stage as no more than 50/50 for the match with Truro next week. In terms of the Truro game, John Kennedy will be out as he is serving a one-match suspension, but that said, the lads are looking forward to next weekend, and it should be a decent game.
