That was a good win for us against a tough and physical Stourbridge side.

Before kick-off I had to make one key change as Liam Nicell reported to the ground with a sickness bug, so we sent him home and I opted to bring Joey Abbs in at right-back. He did OK for us up until he had to go off due to a knee injury.

The way Stourbridge lined up made it difficult for us as they stifled midfield to some extent and it was making it hard to get the ball down and play our usual neat passing game. As a result I thought Stourbridge did well for the first 20 minutes, and we were fortunate not to be a goal down after Adie Cambridge cleared an effort off the line.

So it was a case of riding the storm a little bit, and then we thought we had a breakthrough with the penalty. There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that it was a clear penalty, and Ash Fuller was always going to take it. I thought it was a good strike, so it was unfortunate that we did not take the lead.

At half-time I said to the lads that we had started to pick things up gradually, and if you reviewed the first 45 minutes, Zac Barrett has hardly had a save to make. So it was just a case of increasing the tempo and hope for a breakthrough.

So like everyone else I was delighted when Adie found the net for us. It was a good strike through a crowded penalty box and he hit it really well. We then went two up, and then came their penalty. Although it wasn’t converted, I have no idea why it was given in the first place, and in my mind it was a really strange decision. So we were highly pleased with Zac after making yet another penalty save. It was a great stop, and if it had gone in it may have changed the complexion of the game in the latter stages.

Clearly the third goal killed the contest, and I’m pleased that David Kolodynski is now finding the net, and as a unit the team is looking good.

With us going into the FA Cup game next Saturday, I am clearly delighted with how things are going. I couldn’t have asked any more from the players, and to be a point clear at the top of the table is great. People from outside may think we have money to spend, but the reality is that the budget this year is less than last season, so that makes where we are even more pleasing.

There will be no complacency ahead of the Long Buckby game next week. Although they lost against Deeping at the weekend, they have had a good start to the season including a win against the new Kings Lynn side, and are also scoring a lot of goals. So we know that it will be tough and we will preparing in the right manner for the game, and won’t be taking them lightly.

In terms of injuries, we will have to see how Joey Abbs goes as the week progresses, but Liam Nicell should have recovered to make himself available again for the Long Buckby match. We have a clear week this week so that gives anyone with any knocks etc time to make a full recovery, and everyone should be fresh going into the match next Saturday.
