Kershaw Senior League B: City Reserves 3 Saffron Crocus 2
City's young reserve side came away with the points after a hard fought victory against Saffron Crocus.
The opening goal on 20 mins was scored by GEORGE DARLING after excellent work by James Duncan. The visitors came more into the game and scored a fine equaliser 15 mins before the break. City hit back 5 mins later and took the lead when Neil O'Donohue and Darling set up SHAUN FLACK who curled a delightful shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.
The 2nd half started disasterously for City when a mistake let in a Crocus attacker to bring the scores level. The boys to their credit didn't let their heads go down and re-took the lead with a wonder goal. BRETT WYMAN picking the ball up 30 yards out and unleashing a rocket shot that the keeper could only wave at as it went past. The visitors came back strongly and Richard Brandon pulled off a great save to keep City in front.
With the rain continuing to lash down the lads dug deep and took the 3 points.
Manager Simon Youngs commented "Full credit to the boys as it wasn't easy, but we kept battling and got the points. We were running out of steam at the end, but 90 minutes football is new to most of them so it's a massive learning curve. We will get there but it takes time".
