On the Field

City bounced back to winning ways last Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Oxford City at Milton Road. They had to wait until 89th minute for the breakthrough which came from James Krause. The second coming from Ramon Calliste in injury time.

Gary Roberts’ men were due to play Mildenhall in the semi-final of the Cambs Invitation Cup on Tuesday but that was postponed and then a second attempt was made on Thursday only for an early evening downpour preventing the match from taking place again. At the time of writing, no date has been arranged for when it will eventually take place.

On the subject of re-arranged games City will now visit Bedford on Tuesday April 13 with a 7:45pm kick-off.

City are on the road tomorrow when they travel to Swindon Supermarine, looking to get back in the play-off mix, a position they lost in midweek due to Halesowen winning 3-2 at home to Nuneaton.

Elsewhere, George Darling was the hat-trick hero for the Under 16’s as they demolished Witchford 9-0 in the semi-finals of the County Cup. Details of who they will play in the final will be announced in due course.

Off the Field

Plenty going on off the field this week. First up, Gary Roberts has agreed a new two year deal with the club that will see him commit to Cambridge City until the end of the 2011/12 season. Everyone is delighted that Gary has agreed terms with the club and look forward to him being part of Cambridge City when the club relocates back to Cambridge.

On Wednesday night, the Supporters Trust AGM took place in the Legends Bar, which was attended by around 50 members. The Trust will be publishing a full report on the meeting in due course.

The groundshare and relocation fund got underway last Saturday for the game against Oxford and the bucket collection from the game raised £205.60. There will be more collections at home games for the remainder of this season.

The Craft Fair scheduled for 27 March has sold over 20 stalls so far. There are still spaces available so if anyone wants to purchase a stall then please contact Karen Dunn on 07956 025009 for more information.

A Quiz Night is due to go ahead for Friday 19 March with a 7:30pm for 8:00pm start. Confirmation of prices etc and how to book will be released early next week.

A reminder that the Auction of Promises takes place after the Halesowen game on Saturday 6 March, with a live band (Easy Livin’) playing in the Legends Bar afterwards. Entrance to the Auction is free, but there will be a £3.00 charge on the door for the band.

Also in the Legends Bar on Thursday 18 March there is a Games Night from 6:00pm – 11:00pm. It’s free entry but there is a special offer of a curry and a pint for £5.00, and there will also be a Pool competition together with Wii, Playstation and Poker.

And finally, with City due to play Hednesford in the League Cup Semi Final next Tuesday the league are keen for gates to show an overall increase as the competition reaches the last four. So, all City fans can play a part here. Why not bring a mate, work colleague, neighbour along to Milton Road. The Lilywhites have a decent chance of silverware so let’s make the home advantage count by getting a decent crowd inside Milton Road next Tuesday night and cheer the lads through to the final.
