Like everyone else, I am delighted with the win. However, I wouldn’t say that it was the best performance of the season though.

I say that because although our front two were excellent, I felt we were a bit loose defensively, and looked a bit shaky at times when they were coming at us.

This was evident when Didcot had that excellent spell shortly after we took the lead. I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who suggested that they shouldn’t have got something out of that spell and we had to be thankful to Zac Barret for making a number of good saves for us during that period.

But overall our performance was great, and we all know that in the opening exchanges we looked really good. I thought Robbie took the opening goal well, and that set us up nicely, but as I have just mentioned, Didcot came back at us. It didn’t surprise me really, as they have improved since early season and are certainly no mugs, and do have a few quality players in their squad.

We rode our luck a bit during their first half spell, but the second goal settled us down. I thought Tony Burke took it really well, especially from the angle on which he was homing in on goal at.

Then of course we have Ash Fuller’s goal. What can you say about that? Like everyone else, I thought it was fantastic strike. I’ve spoken about it before, but Ash is a different player for us this season. We’ve given him an opportunity to improve on last year and he hasn’t let us down, and we are all delighted for him.

At half-time, I said to the lads that although we had a 3 goal cushion, I wanted more from them and for us to win by a bigger margin. With that in mind, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed at how we started the first 10 minutes of the second-half as we looked a bit sluggish, but the fourth goal made up for it as it was a great individual effort again from Tony Burke. We are all pleased with Tony as he has settled in nicely and he is proving to be an excellent addition to the squad.

Although we did extend our lead, you have to give credit to Didcot as they didn’t give up, and their substitutes came on and livened it up for them. With the penalty, Angus Maclachlan is adamant he didn’t handle it, but Zac, not for the first time saved from the spot.

With their goal, it’s just one of those that happen. Zac is disappointed he didn’t handle it cleanly, and said it swerved a lot in the air, but the game was over by then and he shouldn’t be too disappointed by it.

The next week is going to see us cover a lot of miles. First up, we have Evesham on Tuesday night which will be difficult for us as they can be tricky opponents. The fans will remember they beat us at Milton Road last season. For that game, Adie Cambridge will be unavailable, so we may put Matt Mitchell in the middle alongside Robbie Nightingale, but we will consider our options.

Then on Saturday we make the long trek to Merthyr Tydfil. Barring injuries on Tuesday, we should be at full strength for that one. Again, Merthyr is a difficult place to go, and we shouldn’t be complacent about any of the two games coming up that they will be straight forward for us.

Finally, I thought the crowd was great on Saturday. It was above average, and the ground had a good atmosphere, and the kids who were there hopefully enjoyed it. That goes for everyone else who was there. I thought it was a good show all round, with four cracking goals and entertaining football. With the confidence sky in the camp, the boys are determined to keep delivering that level of performance week on week, and it’s great to see.
