It was an excellent and very professional performance from us, and I’m delighted we have made it through to the next round.

The danger was always going to be complacency, but I thought we stamped our authority on the game from the start, and as such any worry about us being complacent never really materialised.

Once we got the lead, I couldn’t see us slipping up and although Northampton battled hard, we could have won by a greater margin.

Taking the performance aside, our pre-match preparations weren’t particularly brilliant as we were forced into making a late change as Dave Theobald tweaked his hamstring in the warm-up, and Tom Pepper had to come into right back, with Laurie Stewart playing alongside Lee Chaffey in the centre. I thought Tom took his opportunity well, and he injects a bit of extra pace in the side.

Also, we had a worry over Zac Barrett as he reported to the game with a virus, but managed to get through the 90 minutes OK.

The goals were all well taken, and I was especially pleased with Laurie Stewart, who I thought took his goal well, and it’s good to see him open his account for us.

John Frendo came off as he felt his hamstring a bit too. This meant that we had to play a long period of the game with only 10 men as I had already used our full quota of substitutes. The good news is that John is OK and I don’t think there will be any problem with him not being fit for next week.

Both Robbie Nightingale and Lee Chaffey suffered knocks as a result of the game, but we don’t have any games in midweek, so I’m hopeful that they will be OK for next week too.

I took Steve Gentle off at half-time to give Lee Clarke a run, and I thought he did really well. He’s an intelligent player, and I thought he linked up well with the other players, and is a decent loan signing for us, as he has plenty to offer.

In the next round, I will obviously like a home tie against low ranked opposition, but we’ll see who we get, and there’s a big prize if we win, as we will be in the hat with the teams from the Blue Square Premier.

Next week we return to league action, and Tiverton will be a test for us. They haven’t made the best of starts which surprises me somewhat as they invested in their team quite a bit during the summer, so we will have to be on our guard if we are to maintain our unbeaten run.

Finally, I can confirm that we are looking to bring Craig Dobson back to the club. He is based in the north of England at the moment, and it’s a question of trying to convince him to come to us instead of him having trials at clubs in his local area. We’ll see what happens, it’s all ongoing at the moment, but I’m sure like me, the fans and everyone else at the club will be delighted if he returned to Cambridge City.
