It was a magnificent performance from us. I thought we looked strong from the start, and what pleased me more than anything was the energy in the team.

We played the game constantly at a high tempo in hot conditions, and it was nice for the fans to again be treated to some magnificent goals.

I was surprised at Swindon. I thought they had changed their style of play somewhat from last season, which really allowed our midfield to run the game for us. That said, it may have been just a bad day at the office for them and I still feel that they have the potential, with the players they have, to be in the mix at the end of the season.

It was well documented before the season started that we may struggle for goals once the campaign got underway. That was based on what we had seen during pre-season. During that period, we didn’t really have a full compliment of players as either some of the players were away or coming back from injury and this didn’t really change until we played Cheshunt and subsequently beat them 4-1. We have continued from where we left off there, and it is good to see.

Clearly we’ve been treated to some great finishes so far this season, but I thought John Frendo took his goals exceptionally well on Saturday. He is a clever and excellent finisher in and around the box, and we can expect a lot more from him as things progress. Neil Midgley has also started the season well, and his two goals on Saturday underline that.

Laurie Stewart came into the team, and did really well, and I was delighted for him. He proved that he was more than an adequate replacement for Dave Theobald, and it was a very composed and assured performance from him.

We have no new injuries to report going into the Halesowen game. Tom Pepper is also making good progress at the moment and is nearing fitness, and squad wise we are in good shape and playing with a lot of confidence.

I know it’s early days, but it’s great for the team, the club, and the supporters to be top of the table. If you cast your mind back 12 months we were playing catch-up after a few defeats at the start of the campaign, but we can’t lose sight of the fact that there are a number of excellent teams in this league. Our bank holiday programme is a good example of that, and I expect the games against Nuneaton and Brackley will be a real test for us.

Before then, we have Halesowen. This will also be a tough test for us, especially on their own patch. They’ve got a lot of off the field issues at the moment, but that is separate to what we can expect on the pitch on Wednesday night. As I’ve stated we are playing with a lot of quality and confidence at the moment, and I expect us to go there and once again make a good account of ourselves.
