However the City girls were in fine form and came out winners by thirteen goals to nil. Final score City 13 Moulton Magpies 0
Saturday 20th September 2008 Home v Billing United
Both teams put on a gutsy performance and the game could have gone either way in an end to end display. At half time the scores were level with neither team being able to score the important first goal. City thought they had made the breakthrough when they were awarded a penalty midway through the second half. However, the Billing keeper, who was in great form, saved from Nuala Wayne to deny City. The vital goal finally came with 15 minutes remaining when Nuala Wayne crossed from the left for Hannah-Seymour-Shove to head home. Lola Boulter added a second when she calmly slotted in from distance after a mis hit goal kick. Final score City 2 Billing 0.
Saturday 27th September 2008 Away v Peterborough United
In an entertaining game City came out winners by seven goals to two mainly due to a vastly improved second half performance. In the early part of the game City surged into a 2-0 lead due to a brace from top scorer Hannah Seymour-Shove. However it was Posh who were playing the better football and they deserved to pull the lead back by half-time after two sloppy defensive errors. The second half saw a change in formation with city going with a 4-3-3. The midfield, led admirably by Jade Powell and Lola Boulter took charge and fed good balls through to the forwards to latch onto. Issy Davison, who had her best game since moving from saffron Walden, scored a quick double, followed by two from captain Nula Wayne. The win was completed with an individual effort from fully 30 yards by Jade Powell that flew into the top corner of the net. Overall, the score does not reflect how well Posh played and to be honest the score did flatter the City Girls.
City Girls U11 S-Tech League
Saturday 13th September 2008 Home v Priory Parkside
The City girls made a strong start to their first game of the season against Priory Parkside scoring four goals in the first half - two from Ellie Geoghan and one each from Bronte Rapley and Lucy Holder. Priory stepped up a gear in the second half and made City struggle to keep on top of their game, but great battling by defenders Carla Penny and Lauren Ambrose, together with a good save by Zoe Lander helped to keep a clean sheet. The only goal of the second half came from Bronte Rapley to seal a fine five nil victory to City. Making their debut for Cambridge City were Lauren Verheyden and Jenny Bardwell.
Saturday 20th September 2008 Away v Bishops Stortford
City met a well matched team and struggled to get into this fast paced game. They found themselves one nil down at the end of the first half after a corner from Bishops Stortford hit the post and bounced off a player into the back of the net. The Lilywhites appeared more determined after the break, keeping the pressure on the Stortford girls and creating lots of chances. The girls hard work finally paid off when Lucy Holder's close range shot went in to level the score. A great cross-field ball from Bronte Rapley was collected on the run by Lucy Holder who made no mistake and coolly slotted home her second and the final goal of the match, to give the girls a well-deserved and hard-fought win.
City Girls U15 S-Tech League
Saturday 27th September 2008 Home v Royston Town
Cambridge City Girls U15 started their season with a tough home fixture against old rivals Royston Town in glorious sunshine. The City girls, without four of last years regular squad, gave debuts to four new signings and yet still managed to produce an excellent team performance and win comfortably by five goals to nil. The City defence kept its concentration and marked very tight, the work rate in midfield was superb given the very hot weather and up front the finishing of Jennifer Turner (3) and Chelsea Edmead (2) was composed and clinical. Congratulations also to the Royston girls for their part in making this traditionally hard fought match a very sporting one.
