Stacie Chapman got both goals for City in this hard fought match between the top two teams in 15a. Histon were on top for most of the game but City's Kayleigh Hubbard who was player of the match did well to contain their top scorer Sophie Hopkin. At half time City were 1-0 up after Louisa Vasili crossed the ball towards the Histon goal, the Histon keeper was beaten by the bounce and Stacie Chapman was on hand to put the ball into the net. The second half saw the city goal put under more pressure but the defence remained solid. From a great corner taken by Charlotte Simpson, Stacie Chapman made a good run to get the first touch to the ball and powered home her second goal. With 15 minutes remaining City had to soak up more pressure but did so until with just 5 minutes to go they were slow to pick up players at a corner and Histon pulled a goal back. Great play by all the City girls against a very good Histon side
City Girls U15s (Home Counties)
Not for the first time this season the wind played an important part in this game with Enfield electing to play with the wind behind them. As always they were a strong physical side who fought for every ball which made our girls battle. For the first 20 minutes the main work was done in midfield with Zoe Fisher and Kelly Docwra dropping back to help where needed. Enfield attacked down the right hand side and were awarded a free kick 25 yards out. Although a wall was well organised by Hannah Mardell and Jasmine in goal the Enfield execution was pinpoint top right hand corner and City were 1-0 down. The City girls continued to work hard with Gemma Claire, Honor Freeman, Rachel Pearce and Charlotte Fogarty all working well to support the front pair. Our break came 10 minutes before half time when Zoe Fisher (who hadn't stopped running for 30 minutes) found her way through only to be brought down by the Enfield keeper. Zoe was injured and had to come off and unfortunately was unable to continue due to a knee injury. Gemma stepped up to dispatch her second penalty of the season to make it 1-1 which it remained until half time. The second half began with a few over hit passes but the girls then played some quality football. An excellent individual goal from Charlotte put us in charge and with Enfield still looking for a result; they pushed forward which opened up the game. Charlotte, Kelly and Sophie Hopkins were all rewarded with goals through a great team effort. Enfield continued to come forward and were awarded a penalty late on in the game when a last ditch tackle brought down the Enfield forward, only to be struck over the bar. Final score City 5 Enfield 1
City Girls U13s
Beatrice Fitzsimons thundered a shot in from outside the D to open the scoring for the home team but MK City Colts were contesting everything and had a chance from a free kick that was fired over. Much of Cambridge's play was down the left hand side where Mia Wayne was finding her sister Nuala and both were having a good game going forward. Lauren Rouse added a second for City when she found the far side of the goal from the edge of the area. This seemed to open the floodgates with three minutes later Nuala Wayne being played in by Lola Boulter, a minute later Hannah Seymour-Shove prodded in a rebound from a fierce Beatrice Fitzsimons shot and then Nuala Wayne added her second. Just before half time, however, MK City Colts broke away to snatch a goal and make it 5 - 1. It seemed that Cambridge would overwhelm the visitors at the start of the second half when Chelsea Elmer nipped onto the rebound after Lauren Rouse hit the bar. City Colts, however, defended in depth and battled for everything . Chelsea Elmer claimed her second when her shot was deflected past the goalkeeper, but then City Colts rattled the home team getting to the ball first and testing the defence of Mia Wayne, Hannah Plumb, Jazzy Coulson, Jade Powell and Stacey Carter. A poor clearance led to Suzi Cullum being beaten for a second time and apart from a brief flurry when Lauren Rouse had a fierce shot saved by the keeper, it was City Colts who emerged from the second half with more credit, in what was a far from convincing performance from the Cambridge girls.
Final Score City Girls 7 MK City Colts 2
